- How may I receive a personal recycling box
for my desk?
You may request a box by
calling the CFS Customer Call Center at 8-1900.
- Why do I have to separate their various types
of paper and then dump the paper in the big
blue recycling receptacles, mixing the paper
again?
At this time, the Recycling
Team is working to identify placement and
types of containers needed in each area. Soon
individual containers for separate paper (office
vs. mixed) will be placed in buildings. Currently
both office and mixed are to be combined.
We welcome all customers input regarding where
recycle bins should be placed and how many
should be placed. Please send all suggestions
to recycles@iupui.edu
- Do I empty the recycling cardboard boxes themselves
or will Building Services do it when the offices
are cleaned?
Office occupants are asked
to take the recycling cardboard box to the
nearest large recycling containers and place
the contents into the appropriate large container.
- What am I to do with cardboard boxes?
Small quantities (1 - 2
boxes) can be placed outside of your office
and the custodian will pick them up and take
the boxes to the dock for the Recycling Team
to recycle. Larger quantities will be picked
up by the Recycling Team by calling 8-1900.
Pizza or food boxes should not be recycled
if contaminated with food or coated with wax
or plastic.
- What am I to do with newspapers?
Many buildings on campus
do not have the receptacles to recycle newspapers.
If you want to know the nearest location,
please send an email to recycles@iupui.edu.
If your building does not have newspaper recycling
containers, they may be taken to the roll
off container on the east side of the Physical
Plant.
- What am I to do with batteries?
The Department of Environmental
Health and Safety collects nickel/cadmium
and lead/acid batteries for recycling. To
request a battery pickup, please fill out
the waste
material manifest form. Standard household-sized
(A, AA, AAA, C, D, 9-volt) batteries are not
collected for recycling and may be disposed
of in the trash.
- What am I to do with the cardboard "Fridge
Pack" wraps on twelve pack soft drink cartons?
These materials are not
recyclable and should be thrown away or taken
back by the soft drink carrier.
- When will the receptacles that allow the
separation of the paper be placed in the buildings?
The Recycling Committee
has worked with the Herron School of Art to
design new recycling stations that will be
used in public spaces in all buildings.
A few prototypes of the station are currently
placed in various locations on campus. After
the evaluation of the prototypes is complete,
the remainder of the stations will be built
and distributed. A total of 220 stations should
be in place by the beginning of the spring
semester 2007. Private spaces such
as office suites, mail rooms, copy rooms,
etc. where single or double containers currently
exist, will not change to any great degree.
Additional containers may be provided when
requested by customers or when the Recycle
Team deems them necessary.
- Is the Recycling Team responding only to pickup
calls or do they have a route to follow?
The Recycling Team does
have a weekly route to follow. As the 8-1900
calls to certain buildings increase, the route
will be adjusted to allow for more frequent
pickups.
- What if the recycling receptacle is full,
who do I contact?
Please call the CFS Customer
Call Center at 8-1900.
- How do I recycle printer cartridges?
Toner and ink jet cartridges
need to be handled carefully to prevent damage
and to ensure they are refilled and reused.
After removing the new printer cartridge you
have received from its box, please place the
empty cartridge into the same box. Then place
the box containing the empty cartridge within
the appropriate recycling container. A container
for collecting cartridges is being placed
within the new recycling centers on the first
floor of most campus buildings. If the cartridge
container should be full, please place your
cartridge neatly on the floor beside the recycling
center and call the CFS Customer Call Center
at 8-1900 to request a pick up.
